Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) is a feature of the Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP) system on several recent Volkswagen Group car models, including the SEAT León Mk2 (Typ 1P),[1] Volkswagen Golf Plus,[1] and Volkswagen Scirocco.[2] The system is supplied by Continental Automotive Systems.[1]
Put simply, sensors relating to the ESP sense when the car is going into a skid, and the steering electronic control unit (ECU) automatically provides a prompt to the driver to correct the car trajectory by giving the steering wheel a quick 'nudge'. Recognising that most drivers find the idea of a car steering itself a little troubling, VW Group is quick to stress that the robotic nudge is merely a 'suggestion', which the driver is free to override at any time.
